High school basketball: Minden downs host Haughton in tournament; Doyline wins

The Minden Crimson Tide bounced back Friday with a 59-46 victory over host Haughton in the Swords and Stripes Shootout.

The Lady Tiders fell to a strong Merryville squad 68-44 in their final game in the Benton Lady Tigers Classic.

In other boys games, Doyline defeated North DeSoto 67-48 at Doyline, and Glenbrook fell to Georgetown 58-45 at Georgetown. Georgetown also won the girls game 40-25.

At Doyline, they Panthers improved to 14-8. The Griffins dropped to 1-7.

At Haughton, Cameron Parker scored 23 points to lead Minden (7-6), which fell to Northwood 49-40 Thursday on the first day of the tournament.

Kameron Harris added 16. Markavious Johnson added 10 and Hudson Brown six.

The Tide trailed 10-7 after the first quarter. They outscored the Bucs 14-7 in the second quarter for a 21-17 lead.

Minden continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Bucs 16-9.

Joshua Marshall led Haughton (8-8) with 21 points.

At Benton, the Lady Tiders faced one of the top teams in Class 1A.

Avery Cournoyer poured in 28 points to lead Merryville (16-7), which is No. 4 in the non-select Division IV power rankings. Miranda Williams scored 17.

Brooklyn Jefferson hit four 3-pointers and led Minden (12-8) with 17 points. LeLe Johnson made three from behind the arc and scored 13.
