High school basketball: Parish teams fall in first round of ‘Doc’ Edwards Invitational

All three parish teams fell in the first round of the “Doc” Edwards Invitational Thursday in Bossier City.

In the boys bracket, Minden lost to Ruston 54-36. It was the Tide’s first loss of the season.

In the girls bracket, Minden put up a good fight before falling to Hornbeck 50-46, and North Webster lost to Benton 62-21.

The tournament, sponsored by Willis Knighton Health System and hosted by Airline, features 18 girls and 15 boys teams.

The Crimson Tide (10-1) play Eunice (6-6), which lost to Benton 58-42, in the boys White Bracket consolation semifinals Friday at 3 p.m. at Benton. 

The Lady Tiders (6-6) play Homer (6-6), which lost to Cedar Creek 65-24, in the girls consolation quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m. at Bossier High.

The Lady Knights (8-5) face Bossier (3-6) at 9 a.m. at Bossier.

Minden trailed Ruston by just 32-28 after the first three quarters. But the Bearkats outscored the Tide 22-8 in the fourth.

Camelo Smith led Minden with 12 points. Darnell Morris added nine.

Ahmad Hudson led Ruston (5-4) with 19 points. Ayden Anding had 12 and Keshun Malone 11.

Brooklyn Jefferson paced the Lady Tiders with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also had five steals and five assists.

Shelby Glenn had 12 points, six steals, four rebounds and two assists. Travesti Byrd had eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Hornbeck, last year’s runner-up, improved to 6-8.
