High school boys basketball: Minden wins thriller at BTW, sets up Friday showdown against Bossier

Minden remained undefeated in District 1-4A Tuesday night, defeating Booker T. Washington 64-63 in a thriller at BTW.

Christian Lofton scored the game-winner with a putback with 4.3 seconds left.

Minden (18-2, 4-0) visits Bossier (12-11, 4-0) Friday night with the district lead on the line.

Offensive rebounds were key for the Crimson Tide in the fourth quarter.

The Tide got three on one possession. Jaiden Franklin finally scored to give Minden a 59-55 lead. Franklin was fouled but missed the free throw. Darnell Morris got the rebound. He missed the putback, got the rebound and scored. The Tide led 61-56 with 1:10 left to play.

But BTW wasn’t done. The Lions rallied and took a 63-62 lead on a 3-pointer with 21.1 seconds left. 

The Tide got the ball down the court. Franklin drove inside but missed a shot. However, he tipped the ball to Lofton who scored.

BTW called a timeout with 3.8 seconds left. Minden tipped a pass at mid-court and the Lions didn’t get a shot off.

Minden got off to a strong start and led 23-13 after the first quarter. But BTW got within 31-28 at the half.

The Lions took a 45-43 lead into the fourth quarter. The Tide started the fourth with a 10-5 run for a 53-50 lead. It remained close until Minden took the six-point lead.

Franklin led the Tide with 15 points. Morris and Lofton scored 12 each. Cameron Parker had nine and Carmelo Smith eight.

Rodrieon Dillard led the Lions (15-8, 2-2) with 30 points.

Elsewhere, Doyline fell to Simsboro 65-53 in a District 1-B game at Simsboro. The Tigers improved to 16-9 overall and 6-0 in district. 

The Panthers dropped to 20-5 and 2-2.
