High school boys golf: Minden’s McCormick finishes tied for 8th in Division II state tournament

Minden’s Jackson McCormick finished tied for eighth in the Ochsner LHSAA Boys’ Division II State Tournament in New Iberia.

After Monday’s scheduled first round was rained out, officials elected to play all 36 holes Tuesday.

McCormick shot a 4-over 76 in the first round on the Cane Row Golf & Turf Club course. He rallied in the second round with a 73 for a 36-hole total of 149.

McCormick finished 10 spots higher than he did in the 2023 tournament.

Teurlings Catholic’s Dax Reaux won medalist honors by five strokes. He shot a 66 in the second round after a first-round 73 for a 5-under 139.

Teurlings Catholics’ Cooper Edney (69-75) and St. Thomas More’s Thomas Oubre (74-70) finished tied for second at 144.

St. Thomas More rolled to the team title with a 7-over 583. Teurlings Catholic was second with a 600.

North Webster’s Christian Whitlock finished tied for 28th with an 86-81–167.

Lakeside’s Travis Randle finished 16th in the Division II tournament at The Farm D’Allie in Carencro.

Randle shot 75 in the first round and 84 in the second for a 36-home total of 15-over 159.

Ascension Episcopal’s Noah Chauvin won with a 66-63–139. He had nine birdies in the second round and his score was a course record. It was also the lowest round in any division since the state tournaments started being held in the Acadiana area in 2015.

Chauvin won by 12 strokes over runner-up Neil Phillips of Isidore Newman. Loyola’s Charlie Bell and Connor Cassini finished tied for third, one stroke behind Phillips.
