High school cross country: Glenbrook girls win Region I-V meet; Glenbrook’s Powell runner-up in boys race

Glenbrook won the girls division and Glenbrook eighth-grader Carson Powell finished second in the boys in the Region I-V meet Thursday in Ruston.

Glenbrook scored 34 points in the girls division. Florien finished a distant second with 75 and Negreet was third with 86.

Sophomore Mattison Flowler led the Lady Apaches with a fourth-place finish. She covered the 3-mile Lincoln Parish Park course in 21 minutes, 55.69 seconds. Negreet senior Ava Brown won in 21:23.50.

Glenbrook’s other four runners in the scoring finished 7-8-9-10. Eighth-grader Emerson McLelland ran a 22:33.43, junior Vivian Still a 23:14.61, freshman Laurie Killgore a 23:15.88 and junior Hadley Haynes a 23:39.71.

Glenbrook senior Sophie Spillers finished 22nd in 25:45.01.

Powell ran a 17:38.33. Simpson senior Ean Allain won in 16:44.06.

Glenbrook seventh-grader Trent Clemons was 10th in 19:09.07. Doyline freshman Zach Moreno finished 19th in 19:38.52.

Glenbrook finished seventh in the boys division. 

The top eight teams and 25 individuals in all divisions qualified for the state meet Nov. 13 at Northwestern State.

North Webster junior Stephen Merritt finished 13th in the Region I-III boys meet in Lake Charles. He ran an 18:19 on the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex course.

Lakeside junior Madison McGraw finished 25th in the Region I-IV meet which was also run at Lincoln Parish Park. She ran a 25:19.02.

Lakeside finished seventh in the boys division. Senior Gavin Woodall led the Warriors with a 35th-place finish. Juniors Luke Mandino and Peyton Gray finished 38th and 39th, respectively.

Minden freshman Lizzie Balkom finished 30th in the Region 1-II meet at Acadiana Park in Lafayette.
