The Lakeside Warriors continue to make school history.
Lakeside, the No. 11 seed, routed No. 22 Bogalusa 37-12 in the first round of the non-select Division III playoffs Friday night at home.
The victory was their ninth of the season, a school record. It was also only the second playoff win in school history and the first at home. The last victory was in 2019.
Lakeside also remained undefeated at home at 7-0. The Warriors are also the first team in school history to start the season 6-0.
“It’s just crazy,” Lakeside first-year head coach said of his team’s history-making. Ware, who spent 12 years as head coach at North Webster before coming to Lakeside, picked up his 100th career win earlier this season.
Lakeside (9-2) will visit No. 6 Sterlington (7-4) in the second round Friday. The Panthers routed No. 27 Patterson 63-12 in the first round.
Senior running back/defensive back Taron Riley has had several great games this season, but Friday’s might have been his best.
Riley had an incredible five interceptions. He returned one 97 yards for a touchdown.
“He had a great night in both sides of the ball,” Ware said. “And Kentravion Miller on the other side. Taron was great running the football too. We just played well. Bryce Parker played very well up front on defense. Willie Jenkins also.”
Lakeside led 16-0 at the half. Bogalusa cut the lead to 16-6, but the Warriors scored 21 straight points to go up 37-6. The Lumberjacks scored a late touchdown against Lakes’s second defense.
Bogalusa finished 2-8.
