High school football: Lakeside, North Webster fall

The Lakeside Warriors fell to the Waskom, Texas, Wildcats, 24-14 Friday night in Sibley.

Lakeside dropped to 0-2. Waskom improved to 2-1.

Lakeside got off to a good start. Freshman Malik Thorn scored on a 16-yard run  in the first quarter. German exchange student Levi Lelke kicked the extra point.

Waskom answered with a 22-yard field goal. The Wildcats took the lead on short run by Montez Thompson early in the second quarter.

Thompson capped a 76-yard drive with a 27-yard touchdown run and Waskom led 17-7 at the half.

Lakeside lost a fumble but the defense forced a punt. The Warriors failed to convert a fourth down. Thompson then ran 25 yards for a touchdown and the Wildcats led 24-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Thorn scored the final touchdown of the game on a 30-yard run and Lelke added the PAT.

The Warriors had some opportunities to get closer but they lost two fumbles down the stretch

Lakeside hosts North Caddo Friday. The Titans (0-1) had an open date in Week 2 after falling to Bossier 42-7 in their season opener.

Green Oaks 42, North Webster 12: The Knights dropped to 0-2 with the loss against a resurgent Giants squad.

Head Coach Christopher Wilson didn’t mince words in a Facebook post.

“No excuses. That was an embarrassing performance and none of y’all deserve that. I’m going to find a way to be better for these kids, my staff and everyone affiliated with North Webster High School.”

North Webster travels to Monroe to play St. Frederick Friday. The Warriors (1-1) defeated Cedar Creek 32-10 Friday night.
