High school football: Minden at home in first round of playoffs; North Webster on the road

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Minden Crimson Tide.

But for the second year in a row, Minden will host a non-select Division II first-round playoff game.

Minden (5-5), the No. 12 seed, faces No. 21 Wossman (4-6) Friday night at W.W. Williams Sr. Stadium. It’s rematch of last year’s first-round game won by the Wildcats 26-11.

Minden closed the regular season with a 42-0 rout of Southwood last week at home.

The North Webster Knights are also in the playoffs. North Webster (4-6), the No. 23 seed, will be on the road Friday to take on No. 10 Church Point (8-2).

The Knights snapped a five-game losing streak with a 31-0 victory over Bastrop last week at home.

Minden actually is seeded the same as it was last season when the Tide went 8-2. Strength of schedule was a big factor.

Four of Minden’s losses were against North DeSoto (10-0), Loyola (9-1), Northwood (8-2) and Mansfield (8-2). All four of those are in the top eight seeds in their respective divisions.

North DeSoto is No. 1 in non-select Division II and Loyola is No. 2 in select Division II.

The Tide’s other loss was to North Webster.
