by Russell Hedges

Valerie Ricord has been named head girls basketball coach at Glenbrook, Athletic Director James Thurman announced Saturday in a Facebook post.

Ricord replaces Cheryl Ford, who resigned after three seasons to pursue other opportunities., according to the post.

Ricord has been a teacher and coach at Donnie Bickham Middle School in Shreveport for the last nine years. Before that, she was a coach and teacher at Ridgewood Middle School.

Ricord is a 1999 graduate of Northwood where she played basketball for Coach Shannon Wall, now the school’s principal. She played basketball at Centenary College for one season before a knee injury ended her career.

Ricord graduated from Louisiana Tech at Barksdale Air Force Base and received a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from LSUS in 2019.

Ricord will also be an assistant softball coach.

“I am so blessed and honored to be given the opportunity to continue my coaching career at Glenbrook,” Ricord said in the Facebook post. “It is my goal to instill values and morals in my players that will serve them in sports, the classroom, and beyond.  We will always work to motivate each other to be the best version of ourselves.”

Ford guided Glenbrook’s transition from the MAIS to the LHSAA.

In 2021-22, the Lady Apaches went 12-10 but were ineligible for the playoffs as a first-year LHSAA school.

Last season, Glenbrook was 6-14 overall and 3-7 in District 1-1A.
