A year ago, the Lakeside Lady Warriors came within one out of making the state tournament.
They have another chance to accomplish that Thursday..
Lakeside (22-9), the No. 3 seed, hosts No. 11 Grand Lake (18-7) in the quarterfinals of the non-select Division IV quarterfinals at 5 p.m.
The winner advances to next week’s state tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur.
In a non-select Division IV quarterfinal game, No. 2 seed Glenbrook (23-6) hosts No. 7 Holy Savior Menard (18-12) Saturday at 1.
Lakeside’s quarterfinal game comes a year after the Lady Warriors lost a heartbreaker to Mangham in the quarterfinals. Lakeside came within an out of a victory but the Lady Dragons rallied with three runs and won 4-2.
The Lady Warriors could’ve had a rematch against Mangham. But Grand Lake upset the No. 6 seed Lady Dragons 12-10 in the second round.
Grand Lake, the District 4-1A runner-up, defeated No. 22 Lake Arthur 13-3 in the first round. The Lady Hornets have won eight of their last nine games.
Lakeside received a first-round bye. The Lady Warriors defeated No. 14 South Plaquemines 30-0 in the first round Tuesday.
