High school softball: Lakeside opens defense of 3-2A title with rout of Red River

The Lakeside Lady Warriors opened defense of their District 3-2A title with a 22-1 victory over Red River Tuesday in Coushatta.

The Lady Warriors led 9-1 after four innings then scored 13 in the top of the fifth.

Moose Jernigan went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Peyton Wood went 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Lola Huddleston went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Emily Jones went 3-for-3 with a double. 

Teal Austin went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBI. Meredith Robinson went 2-for-2. Madilynn Squyres had two RBI,

Wood and Jernigan pitched one inning each. Wood allowed one hit and struck out three. Jernigan didn’t allow a hit and struck out one. Huddleston allowed two hits and struck out eight in the final three innings.

Lakeside (8-3) hosts Saline Thursday at 4:30. Red River dropped to 3-4.
