High school track and field: Doyline athletes qualify for Class B boys state meet

Doyline finished fourth in the Region I-B boys meet Monday at Quitman.

The Panthers scored 56 points. Quitman won with 166 points. Castor was second with 127 and Simsboro third with 62.

The top three finishers in individual events and relays qualified for the Class B meet Thursday, May 8, at LSU.

Doyline athletes qualified in six events.

Tiago Lara and Michael Wright qualified in two individual events and one relay.

Lara finished third in the 400 meters and triple jump. He ran a time of 53.46 seconds in the 400.  Quitman’s Gage Horton won in 52.04.

Lara was third in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 10.5 inches. Castor’s Matthew McCarthy won with a 40-1.75.

Wright finished third in the 110 hurdles in 18.34. Castor’s Cordero Clark won in 16.63.

Wright was also third in the 300 hurdles in 53.62. Quitman’s Nathan Harvey won in 41.62.

Lara and Wright teamed with Roderick Clark Jr. and Gabriel Burns for a third-place finish in the 4X200 relay. They ran a 1:38.71. Quitman won in 1:33.87.

Zachary Moreno finished third in the 1,600 in 5:13.87. Quitman’s Horton won in 5:01.05.

The Region I-1A meet is Tuesday at Lakeside. The Region I-3A meet is Tuesday at Sterlington.

The Region I-2A meet is Wednesday at ULM. The Region I-4A meet is Thursday at Northwestern State.
