High school track and field; Two Glenbrook athletes win District 1-1A titles; several others qualify for regional meet

Two Glenbrook athletes won championships in the District 1-1A meet Thursday at Lakeside.

Carson Powell won the boys 400 in 52.32 seconds. Ringgold’s Jaboria Hamilton was second in 55.62.

Powell also finished second in the 800 in 2:20.73. Cedar Creek’s Joshua McCarthy won in 2:16.82.

Ila Downer and Haynesville’s Janiya Jackson both cleared 4-8 in the girls high jump. Downer won on fewer misses.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for Tuesday’s Region I-1A meet which will also be held at Lakeside.

Trent Clemons finished second in the boys 1,600 in 5:19.26 and 3,200 in 12:11.96. Cedar Creek’s Luke Alexander won the 1,600 in 4:48.37 and 3,200 in 10:55.25.

Laurie Kilgore finished third in the girls 3,200 in 16:10.40. Cedar Creek’s Evelyn Mills won in 14:42.43.

Emma Garner was third in the girls 300 hurdles in 54.80. Jonesboro-Hodge’s Ciara Gray won in 46.26.

Ella Heflin finished third in the girls discus with a throw of 87-6. Haynesville’s Arieanna Penegar won with a 102-3.

Anna Morales qualified for the regional with a fourth-place finish in the girls javelin. Franklin Bridwell qualified with a fourth-place finish in the boys shot put.

Haynesville swept the team titles,

The Tors won the boys division with 154 points. Cedar Creek was second with 112 followed by Ringgold with 79, Jonesboro-Hodge with 67, Arcadia with 48 and Glenbrook with 40.

The Lady Tors scored 149 points. Jonesboro-Hodge was second with 129 followed by Cedar Creek with 114, Plain Dealing with 36 and Glenbrook with 34.
