A Minden man was arrested early Wednesday, August 5, after allegedly leading police on a high-speed pursuit that ended with a rollover crash in Bienville Parish, according to a Minden Police Department report.
Police said an officer observed a gray Dodge Durango traveling on Homer Road without functioning rear lights at approximately 3:19 AM. As the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Martez Miller, 27, allegedly turned from the right lane onto Fincher Road and accelerated away.
According to the report, the pursuit reached speeds exceeding 97 mph in a 35-mph zone on Fincher Road.
Police said Miller then turned onto U.S. Highway 80 after running a stop sign and led two marked Minden Police Department units into Bienville Parish. During the pursuit, officers reported Miller ran multiple stop signs, drove off the roadway several times, and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic.
The pursuit ended when Miller lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over into a ditch on the opposite side of the roadway.
According to police, Miller exited the overturned vehicle and fled into a nearby wooded area on foot before being apprehended.
The Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office took Miller into custody at the scene. He was transported to Bienville Medical Center for evaluation before being released into the custody of the Minden Police Department.
Miller was charged with aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, failure to maintain required taillamps, and improper turn.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
