Jacie Brent was crowned Miss Minden, and Aliyah Armstrong was crowned Miss Spirit of Fasching during the Miss Minden Scholarship Competition at the Civic Center on January 7.
The Miss Minden Scholarship Competition celebrated its 70th anniversary this year with a large and enthusiastic crowd. Gracie Reichman, Miss Louisiana 2022, served as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.
Seven young ladies competed for the titles of Miss Minden and Miss Spirit of Fasching, and three young ladies competed for the titles of Miss Minden Outstanding Teen, Miss Spirit of Fasching Outstanding Teen, and Miss Bayou Dorcheat Outstanding Teen.
Jacie Brent swept the Miss Minden Awards, not only crowned Miss Minden, but also receiving the Miss Congeniality Award, an award which is voted on by fellow candidates for being the most thoughtful, courteous, and helpful candidate; the Hannah McFarland Style Award (named for Miss Minden 2007), which is the evening gown award; and the Talent Award for her singing performance.
As the recipient of the title of Miss Minden 2023, Miss Brent will receive a $1,500 scholarship and $500 for wardrobe expenses, and she will represent Minden at the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Competition which will be held in Monroe in June.
Aliyah Armstrong, as the recipient of the title of Miss Spirit of Fasching 2023, will also receive a $1,500 scholarship and $500 for wardrobe expenses, and she will also represent Minden at the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Competition in Monroe this June.
The title of Miss Minden Outstanding Teen 2023 was awarded to Brittany Odom, who will receive $250 for wardrobe expenses, and will represent Minden at the Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen Competition which will be held in Monroe in April. Miss Odom was also awarded both the Miss Congeniality Award as well as the Talent Award for her singing performance.
The title of Miss Spirit of Fasching Outstanding Teen 2023 was awarded to Jolie Ortego. She will receive $250 for wardrobe expenses, and will represent Minden at the Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen Competition in Monroe in April. Miss Ortego was also awarded the Hannah McFarland Style Award for the evening gown portion of the program.
The title of Miss Bayou Dorcheat Outstanding Teen 2023 was awarded to Ainsley Doles. Miss Doles will also receive $250 for wardrobe expenses, and will be representing Minden at the Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen Competition in Monroe in April.
The Miss Minden Scholarship Competition bid a fond farewell to last year’s title holders: Anna Claire Lemoine, Miss Minden 2022; Courtney Patterson, Miss Spirit of Fasching 2022; Olivia Blackwelder, Miss Minden Outstanding Teen 2022; and Izzy Gray, Miss Spirit of Fasching Outstanding Teen 2022.
The Young Women’s Service Club, which hosts the competition, would like to thank all the sponsors and community members for supporting the Miss Minden Scholarship Competition, which is still going strong after 70 years.
