The Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry is asking for community support as it works to sustain its Summer Feeding program, which has already surpassed its projected budget with one month remaining.
The pantry served meals to nearly 100 families in a single day last week, and they need assistance if they are going to be able to continue serving people this summer.
According to a recent social media post from the pantry, the organization estimated it would need $18,000 to fund the entire summer effort. However, current expenses have already exceeded $20,000, with the program scheduled to continue through the end of July — three weeks beyond the conclusion of the Webster Parish Schools’ summer feeding program, which ends July 7.
“So far we’ve spent $20,919.78,” they stated. “In addition to all of the hours and the volunteers that drive the program, it takes real money, and a lot of it!”
Breakdown of expenses included:
- $9,601.59 for the first month’s supplies from Sam’s Club
- $9,962.72 for the second month
- $516.50 for an emergency run
- $764.90 for 9,000 paper bags
- $74.07 for spoons
Organizers are encouraging donations to help cover remaining costs. Contributions are tax deductible and may be made in the following ways:
- By check to JLFP, 814 Constable St., Minden, LA 71055
- PayPal: @JLFP318
- Venmo: @Joe-LeBlanc-22
