Junior high football: Webster 8th-grade team closes outstanding season with victory

The Webster Wolves completed an outstanding eighth-grade season with a 38-7 victory over the Elm Grove Eagles at Lakeside.

The Wolves finished 7-1 and outscored their opponents 220-21. 

Javon Calloway scored the Wolves first touchdown on a 25-yard run. Jaden Johnson completed a touchdown pass to Bennet Speer on fourth down and Webster led 14-7 at the half.

The Wolves quickly extended the lead as Markell Miller returned the second-half kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown.

Speer completed a 50-yard TD pass to Johnson and Miller scored on a 40-yard run.

Offensive linemen Braylon Ferrell, LeTarrance Goldston and Tikendrick Jenkins kept Elm Grove’s blitzing linebackers in check.

Miller also came up big on defense with two interceptions. Lucas Owens Jr. and Abreon Curry had one each.

Holt Holliday, Nekeya Harden, JaQuarion Martin and Tyqaurious Turkington helped control the run game as Elm Grove picked up only three first downs.

The seventh-grade team closed its season with a tough 28-27 loss.

Kaiden King threw touchdown passes to Will Brown and Broxton Oestrich.

King and Oestrich also scored rushing touchdowns. Jontavious Anderson, Ian Clark and Mason Hart led the team in tackles. The defense forced two fumbles.

Webster finished 4-4z
