Junior high football: Webster 8th-grade team shuts out Cope

The Webster Wolves pulled out a 12-0 victory over the Cope Cougars in an eighth-grade game Tuesday at M.D. Ray Field at Airline Stadium.

Javon Calloway and Nekeya Harden helped the Wolver get the shutout with two sacks each.

JaQuarion Martin, Bennett Speer, Marquan Miller and Lucas Owens Jr. all played a role in shutting down Cope’s run offense.

Markell Miller had an interception in the second quarter, his second of the year.

Jaden Johnson completed five passes and rushed for 60 yards. 

Abreon Curry had three catches. Owens led the Wolves on the ground and scored both touchdowns.

The game was delayed 20 minutes by lightning and played in wet conditions. But center Shaylin Stanley didn’t have a bad snap.

The 8th-grade Wolves (2-0) play Benton at home Tuesday.

Cope won the seventh-grade game.
