Karen’s Korner: Active seniors

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s  Korner

Our Senior Adults of today are very vibrant and active. The proverbial “rocking chair” is not even in their vocabulary. They are seeking new and positive activities to keep them physically fit and mentally alert.

The latest research indicates that the typical Senior Adult is up and on the go as soon as they can be. They are not tied into any one specific activity but multiple activities.

Some of the interests included in this article I read include:

Pickleball, tennis, golf, miniature golf, pool, shuffleboard, bocce, badminton, croquet, and other sporting exercises

Dancing, Karaoke, and Performance Arts; and, not just going to plays but being an active participant in the play

Themed parties like casino nights, trivia nights, or Mexican fiestas, and other social gatherings

Board games, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles., and card games like bridge or poker, and the big fun game, “BINGO”

Pet therapy or volunteering at animal shelters

Gardening and Outdoor Pastimes

Seniors want to be active for as long as they can. And anything we can do to promote that will be very helpful. Our seniors are essential for our society. Their vast experience, their

helpful guidance, and their zest for life give us all examples that we can follow.

Our Senior Adults here at the Webster Parish Council on Aging are among the very best.

Come and join in on the fun and fellowship we experience every day, Monday through Friday. If you are 60 and above, you are always welcome to participate.

We are located at 1482, Sheppard Street, here in Minden!
