KAREN’S KORNER: INDEPENDENCE DAY

by Minden Press-Herald

KAREN’S KORNER,

July 4th is fast approaching. I hope you will be able to spend it with your family and friends. It is the birthday of our Independence in the United States of America.

Here’s a little history for your memory banks:

The 4th of July or July 4th, also known as Independence Day, marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 when the United States declared independence from Great Britain. The day is the “National Day” of the United States. Later in the history of the Early Republic, the observance of Constitution Citizenship Day marks when the Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787.

A day at the lake, a short excursion to observe fireworks, attending a parade, or just kicking around the house to throw a steak or burger on the grill is always a fun day. Holidays are special for us all.

Take time out to celebrate our Day of Independence and remember all of those veterans and military folks who continue to make our nation great, and all those seniors who have paved the way for a better life for us all.

Happy Fourth, Y’all.
