Karen’s Korner: Sleep habits

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner,

As I have aged, I have found that my sleep habits have changed quite abruptly. The aging process has a lot to do with it, but there are other factors as well. Getting sleep at night definitely makes us feel better during the day, and helps to prevent illnesses, physical conditions, and ensures a healthier lifestyle.

I read several articles concerning the “Great Sleep Issue,” as I call it, and came up with some helpful hints for us all.

The Cleveland Clinic has done quite a bit of research on sleep habits, and they have found some helpful hints:

‘Sleep restores us and has a huge effect on how we actually feel!”

‘If you have trouble sleeping, try first to develop a sleep schedule or routine.:

Going to bed at the same time each evening…

Waking up at the same time every day…

Avoiding a heavy meal right before retiring for the night…

Stop screen time from your devices 2 hours before bedtime.”

Other ideas include:

·    “Listen to calming music.

·    Practice mindfulness or meditation.

·    Reflect on the positive moments of the day.

·    Read a book.

·    Have a cup of chamomile tea.

·    Practice 10 minutes of yoga”.

These are just some helpful hints. I hope they work for you…Good night and sweet dreams!
