Karen’s Korner: The winter of my life

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner

  • I find that I am closing in on the winter of my life.
  • My eyes are not as discerning as they once were,
  • my knees tend to make these weird noises,
  • and my body doesn’t respond as quickly as it once did.
  • My mind is basically the same, it just takes it
  • a bit longer to sort through things and remember,
  • but, for the most part, it is basically the same
  • as it was when I was a lot younger, I think.
  • My attitude has changed a bit as well.
  • “I can do anything” has been replaced by
  • an appreciation for someone who has the
  • attitude of “I can do anything.”
  • My ideas have also changed a bit.
  • They have returned to those simple things,
  • that always worked when I was much younger,
  • as well as finding ways to simplify my life.
  • I will never give up…that’s a safe bet.
  • But, the battle never seems to end either;
  • and the struggles are a bit more difficult,
  • as I wage them daily now……
  • The words “tested,” “challenged,”
  • “failure” and “success” have a deeper
  • and more satisfying, yet bittersweet
  • meaning – more today than ever.
  • I guess when all is said and done,
  • Winter is not so bad,
  • because it doesn’t last forever,
  • and besides, the best season is yet to come.
