Karen’s Korner,
What is a gift?
“A gift or a present is an item given to someone without the expectation of payment or anything in return. An item is not a gift if that item is already owned by the one to whom it is given. Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free!”
(Wikipedia)
A true gift has no strings attached, and it is special in that you don’t necessarily deserve it, nor do you ask for it. It is just given to you!
A gift is something you may desire with all your heart, yet you do nothing to receive it or deserve it. It is given to “you!” It may be bought with great price or made by hand! It may be delivered by special delivery, in the mail or in person. Those are my favorites.
It may be given to meet a need or….just because…and that’s my favorite too!
Giving gifts at Christmas is very special…but sometimes we do it out of habit, because it is the Christmas thing to do. And it becomes a thing of habit! May we never give out of habit or because we think it is expected! May we always give from our hearts simply because we want to!
I hope you and your family had a very Merry Christmas, 2024.
We are looking forward to a great New Year, 2025, here at the Council on Aging! Come and join in on the fun, food, and fellowship at 1482 Sheppard Street, here in Minden.
