The theme for this year’s event was “Greek Goes Hollywood.” The Miss Fashionetta Pageant is a fundraising project for Iota Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (a non profit organization.) The funds raised are utilized for scholarships and community service projects, such as activities for senior citizens and youth, St. Jude Hospital, Sickle Cell Anemia, Louisiana Girls State, etc. Each year a new contestant is a crowned Queen and carries the title of Miss Fashionetta.
The 2016 Miss Fashionetta was Leigha Kennon-Gilbert, the daughter of Fayrine Kennon-Gilbert and the late Vertis Gilbert. Leigha is a third grade honor roll student at J.L. Jones Elementay School and is a member of the St. Rest Baptist Church of Minden. She is the younger sister of Ada Kennon-Gilbert who is also a former Miss Fashionetta Queen.
First runner up was Jayden Amaya Echolrs, second runner up was Armani Treasure Eason and third runner up was Carrington Ivory Hill. Also introduce was the AKA Kiddie Extravaganza and her court along with the Little Mr. Classic Esquire and his court.Incorporated into the presentation of 2016 Miss Fashionetta was a night of talent showcase, fashion runway utilizing the areas finest fashions and various entertainment from local artists. The emcee for the night was Dr. Grady Smith of Minden along with talent from Kaerington Wilson, Isaiah Boston, the Epsilon Rho Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa Kudos, the Louisiana Tech University Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Reginald Bridges and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band fraternity from the GSU Marching Band and Iota Rho Omega new initiates. Fashion was showcased from our area boutiques that included Tre’Sors D’Antan Boutique, Hers Bridal, Pink Pratique, and Rok Kouture Fashions. There was also a Fabulous 50+ fashion showcase and First Sunday Fashion review.
