Kmart closing Bossier City location

BOSSIER CITY — Bossier City’s Kmart is shutting its doors for good.

The store, located at 3045 E. Texas Street will close in early August, Howard Riefs, director of communications for Sears Holdings said in an email. The store will begin its liquidation sale on May 19.

The Bossier City closure comes on the heels of Sears Holding, Kmart’s parent company, announcing the closures of 68 Kmart stores across the nation in late April. In that announcement, a Pineville store was the only Louisiana location listed.

“Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model,” Rief said.

Rief did not have a number of employees that will be affected by the closure, but said those eligible will receive severance pay and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.

The nearest Kmart store is in Texarkana, Texas, according to the retailers website.
