Lady Tiders win basketball tourney

by Minden Press-Herald

Over the weekend, the Minden Lady Tiders took part in the Jack Clayton Invitational Tournament, bringing the first place trophy home to Minden in convincing fashion.

The tournament title comes on the heels of big wins over Neville (75-59), Captain Shreve (57-40) and Haughton (63-44) in the finals.

Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown was pleased with the championship performance of his girls.

“Each game this weekend was unique,” Brown said. “Our girls showed they have the ability to play from ahead or behind, and we proved we can play some pretty good defense. I was really proud of our girls for finding ways to win each ball game. We’ll continue to improve from here.”

In the championship game against Haughton, Sha’Terra Batton led the Lady Tiders with 22 points, followed by Bre Rogers and Tiaga Pugh with 16 points.

The Lady Tiders will take on Airline, Tuesday, Dec. 8, before taking part in the Doyline Tournament which begins Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Lakeside Warriors

In the consolation finals of the boys bracket in the Jack Clayton Invitational, the Lakeside boys fell to Benton, 73-69 in double overtime.

Lakeside trailed by 18 at one point before rallying in the second half to send the game into OT.

Lakeside and Benton played to a 6-6 tie in the first OT, but Benton would end the exciting contest in the second.

“We had to play most of the overtimes without some key players who were fouled out,” Lakeside head coach Jason Gould said. “I was proud of my bench guys for stepping up, especially Djimon Lard.”
