An already challenging hilly and winding three mile course awaited the runners at the Lakeside Anthill Cross-Country Meet at the Minden Rec Complex. Add sheets of wind blown rain and you had one tough race.
Alisa Lander ran away with the girls’ race running a 19:05 which topped the second place time by 45 seconds. Lander took the lead at the start and lengthened it throughout the race. Freshman Tynia Joiner placed 11th out of the 62 runners running a time of 24:24. Cedar Creek took the team title.
The boys’ race featured a duel between Eric Greene and Cody Robinson. The two lakeside runners set a blistering pace with Greene winning a sprint at the finish running a time of 16:54. Robinson was a close second at 16:59. Freshmen Tyler Davis and Logan Baily took seventh and 17th respectively. Davis clocked and 18:50 while Baily ran a 19:27. Cedar Creek won the team title.
The Lakeside Jr. High teams competed at the Choudrant State CC Meet in Ruston. Top finisher for the girls was Alaina Stiles who was 16th out of 68 runners running a 10:56 over the 2400 meter distance. Finishing 17th was Kerrigan Zachary at 10:59. Other girl finishers were: Egypt Anderson (20th, 11:04); Angelina Futch (22nd, 11:18); Kaylee Davis (28th, 11:31); and Essence Anderson (65th, 14:19). With the exception of Futch all were seventh graders. The Lakeside team finished fourth of nine with Ruston Jr. High winning the title. Sara Holt of Calvary won the individual title at 9:11.
Austin Nunn lead the Jr. High boys finishing 38th at 10:18. Trent Gordon and Jeremiah Brown followed at 39th and 41st with times of 10:20 and 10:30. Austin Mikovich of Calvary won the individual title at 8:06 while Ruston Jr. High took the boys’ team title.
Former Lakeside star Enrique Soto completed his sophomore regular season at McNeese by finishing 22nd out of 93 at the Southland Conference Meet. Soto was the fifth finisher on his team running a 26:01 over the 8K course. McNeese finished fourth out of 13 teams.
Next action for the Lakeside teams will be the AA State Championships at the NSU Track Complex on Monday, November 16. The boys’ race will begin at 1:45. The girls’ event begins at 3:15.
