Lakeside Jr/Sr High School’s FBLA Organization Launches “Soles for Souls” Shoe Drive Fundraiser

by Minden Press-Herald

Lakeside Jr/Sr High School’s FBLA Organization is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser beginning October 16 – November 17th to offset the cost of members attending regional, state and national competitions.  The FBLA club will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit Lakeside’s FBLA organization.  Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at the school located at 9090 Highway 371, Sibley or the Minden branch of the Webster Parish Library.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners.  Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs to help them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.  Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in the shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe, and house their families. One of these entrepreneurs in Haiti earned enough to send her son to law school.

“We are extremely excited about our shoe drive,” said FBLA sponsor, Lesa Ward.  “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us.  By doing so, we will raise money for our students to attend these various competitions throughout the year as well as help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities.  It’s a win-win for everyone.”

By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to the organization, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.

FBLA, officially known as Future Business Leaders of America, is the high school division of a career and technical student organization (CTSO) dedicated to preparing students for careers in business. The mission of FBLA is to “inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.” Currently there are more than 196,950 members in 5,200 FBLA chapters across the US and other countries.
