The Lakeside Warriors played the nightcap game on day one of the Minden Invitational Tournament, falling to the Parkway Panthers, 8-5.
The Warriors and Panthers battled all night, taking a tie game into the seventh inning. With the score tied 2-2, Parkway broke it open with a six-run frame. Lakeside made a valiant comeback effort in the bottom of the inning, putting three runs on the board, but fell short in the end.
With the loss, the Warriors now drop to 0-5 on the season.
Despite the loss, Lakeside got a superb effort from their upperclassmen at the plate.
Senior Josh Prince had the best day, going 4-4 with three singles, a double and one RBI. Prince also took the mound for Lakeside and tossed six innings, striking out three batters, giving up eight hits and allowing six earned runs.
Jake Gray and Colton Carter each went 1-3 with singles and two RBIs. Cameron Gray had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with a pair of singles. Tanner Page, Dalton Crumpler and Jayke Stewart all added singles for the Warriors.
Lakeside will have to rebound quickly and look for their first win of the season Friday against the Minden Crimson Tide at Griffith Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
North Webster
RUSTON – The North Webster Knights suffered their first loss of the season in the Trey Altick Classic Thursday night against St. Mary’s, 5-4.
The Knights held a 3-1 advantage in the third inning, but St. Mary’s mounted a comeback to take the lead and keep it. The Knights are now 5-1 this season.
North Webster will be back at Cedar Creek in Ruston to take on West Feliciana in game two of the Trey Altick Classic.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Minden Invitational Tournament
The Minden Invitational Tournament rolls on today with two games, followed by four games Saturday.
