The Greater Minden Chamber has done it again—launching a creative and community-focused initiative that both supports our local businesses and brings some summer fun to the Greater Minden area. “Buy Local Bingo” is more than just a catchy title; it’s a powerful reminder of how we, as residents and consumers, can make a real difference right here in Webster Parish.
Running from July 7 through August 8, this game-inspired campaign encourages residents to shop locally, complete themed squares on a bingo card, and submit photos or receipts for a chance to win prizes. Complete a row and you’ll be entered into a raffle. Go for the blackout and you’ll have a shot at a special $100 drawing, generously donated by Catherine C. Hunt of La State Realty.
What I love most about this initiative is how simple it is to participate, and how impactful it is to our community. When you choose to spend your dollars locally, you’re investing in the people and businesses that make Minden unique. You’re supporting your neighbors, your friends, and the families who keep our community vibrant and strong.
Local businesses aren’t just storefronts, they are the backbone of our economy and the heart of our hometown. They sponsor little league teams, donate to school fundraisers, offer a warm greeting when you walk through the door, and show up for us when times are tough. Supporting them isn’t just a nice thing to do, it’s essential for a thriving community.
And let’s not overlook one of the hidden joys of this campaign: discovery. Buy Local Bingo may introduce you to a shop, restaurant, or service you’ve never visited before. Or maybe you’ll rediscover a business you haven’t seen in years, suddenly experiencing it again for the first time. Either way, it opens the door to new connections and stronger local loyalty.
The Chamber has made it easy to join in. Bingo cards are available at the Chamber office, on their website, or via their social media pages. You can also find one at press-herald.com. Just grab a card, follow the prompts, and start filling in those squares with local experiences. Whether you’re enjoying a meal at a local café, shopping at a boutique, or grabbing supplies from a homegrown hardware store, every square represents a step toward supporting the hometown economy.
This effort reflects something bigger than a fun summer contest. It speaks to the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to supporting our small businesses, many of whom have weathered economic uncertainties and rising costs over the past few years. Programs like this not only provide a short-term sales boost, but also help build long-term customer relationships.
Beyond that, this kind of event fosters community pride. When we actively support each other, we strengthen the bonds that make towns like Minden so special. We get the chance to celebrate what makes us unique, and that sense of pride ripples outward, attracting visitors, new residents, and even future businesses.
So to the Greater Minden Chamber team, thank you. Thank you for thinking outside the box, for celebrating the local business community, and for giving us all a way to participate.
And to the readers: I challenge you to pick up a card and play. Whether you knock out five squares or go all-in for the blackout, your efforts help shape a stronger, more resilient Minden. You might win a prize, but even if you don’t, you’ll be winning in a much bigger way.
Let’s make this summer a season of connection, community, and good old-fashioned Bingo.
See you out there.
