Local Easter celebrations and events this Holy Week

As Easter approaches on March 31, local churches and communities are gearing up to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a variety of events and activities.

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as described in the New Testament. It marks the culmination of Holy Week, which begins with Palm Sunday and concludes on Holy Saturday.

Many area churches and communities have planned special events to mark this significant Christian holiday. Some of the highlights include:

  • Easter Carnival in Springhill: On March 30, from 1-3 PM, City Park in Springhill will host an Easter carnival, offering games, music, and fun for the whole family.
  • Easter Egg Hunt at House of Peace Ministries: Located at 680 Lee Street in Minden, House of Peace Ministries will be hosting an Easter egg hunt on March 30 starting at 2 PM. The event will feature games, music, food, and photos with the Easter bunny.
  • Easter Egg Hunt at Warsaw Park: On March 31, from 2 PM until 5 PM, Warsaw Park, located at 615 Walnut Street in Minden, will be hosting an Easter egg hunt for children of all ages.
  • Community-wide Egg Hunt in Haughton: First Baptist Church of Haughton will be holding a community-wide egg hunt at 105 E. Washington Avenue in Haughton from 10 AM until noon on March 30.
  • Musical Drama at Pine Grove Methodist Church: Pine Grove Methodist Church, located at 4549 Highway 159 in Minden, will be presenting a musical drama about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection titled “A Picture of Calvary” on March 29 at 6:30 PM.
  • Road to Resurrection Museum at Living Word Minden: Living Word Minden opened a Road to Resurrection museum on March 23 and 24. They will also be holding a Communion Service on March 29 at 6:30 PM and a Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday at 6:30 AM, followed by their regular service at 10 AM.
  • Men of Courage Holy Week Observance: Men of Courage will be meeting at the ash tree in Minden at 5:30 PM Monday through Friday of Holy Week to share insights about Jesus’ activities during that week. They will also hold “One Cross One People, Walking in Unity” on March 29 from 7 AM until 7 PM. They will start at the ash tree across from the Civic Center at 7 AM, then they’ll be at Save-a-Lot at 10 AM, the Greater St. Paul Church at 2 PM, Minden Presbyterian at 4 PM, and at North Acres Church at 5:30 PM.
  • Movie Night at Antioch Baptist Church: On March 30 at 6 PM, Antioch Baptist Church in Dixie Inn will host a movie night featuring “The Case for Christ.”
  • Easter EGGstravaganza at North Acres Baptist Church: North Acres Baptist Church held an Easter EGGstravaganza on March 23.
  • Easter Celebrations at Calvary Baptist Church: Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1400 Homer Road in Minden, will have their regular worship service at 10:45 AM followed by an egg hunt and family photos at noon. Services will also be broadcast on KBEF radio 9:30-10 AM.

These events provide opportunities for the community to come together for fun, fellowship, and worship as they celebrate the life of Jesus Christ during Holy Week.
