Louisiana Main Street grant available for historic building restoration

by Minden Press-Herald

MINDEN — Local commercial property and business owners have an opportunity to apply for restoration funding through the Louisiana Main Street Restoration Grant program.

Grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 are available for the restoration of historic commercial structures located within designated Main Street districts, including Minden. Funding may be used for interior and/or exterior improvements, but all work must meet specific preservation standards. The deadline to apply is May 30, 2025.

Applications submitted from Minden will compete with those from other Main Street communities across the state. Over the years, Minden Main Street has secured nearly $70,000 in grant funding, leading to more than $200,000 in local project investments and boosting job creation and economic activity.

To qualify, buildings must be at least 50 years old, located in the designated Main Street district, and used for commercial purposes. All proposed work must be approved by the local historic district commission (for exterior projects) and by Louisiana Main Street. Restoration efforts must also comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

Full application guidelines and additional information are available from Sarah Overall, Main Street and Economic Development Director for the City of Minden, at [email protected].
