Luke Survale Shepherd was born on Aug. 24, 1937 to Mr. Henry Shepherd and Mrs. Peggy Ann Lofton Shepherd. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Luke united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Hollingsworth. To this union of 54-and-a-half years, six children were born.
“Big Daddy,” as he was affectionately called, loved spending time with his family and playing his favorite game, dominos.
Mr. Shepherd was employed by Willammette Industries until he retired in 1996.
On Aug. 31, 2105, Luke Shepherd departed this earthly life. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Annie Stephens; two nephews, Richard Monroe and Patrick Coleman.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Mary Hollingsworth Shepherd; three sons, Gerald Shepherd (Cheryl) of Lakeland, Florida, Michael Shepherd (Tonnie) of Bossier City, and Kenneth Shepherd (Sharon) of Shreveport; three daughters, Regina Willies (L. T.), Chanetta Shepherd, both of Minden, and LaTasha Shepherd of Shreveport; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Shepherd (Rose) of Houston; four sisters, Elizabeth Jones of Dallas, Lola Coleman of Heflin, Texas, Bessie Monroe (Curry) and Jackie Shepherd, both of Houston; a sister-in-law, Dianne Hollingsworth of Princeton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life services for Luke Shepherd will be at noon, Friday, Sept. 4, at Mt. Calm Baptist Church with the Rev. T. A. Knapp officiating.
Interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3 in Kennon’s Mortuary Chapel.
