A Minden man was arrested following a two-vehicle crash on March 29 after officers reported signs of impairment and later discovered a firearm, according to a police report.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Homer Road and Fincher Road in reference to a crash involving two vehicles. The driver of one vehicle was identified as Jacob McDonald, 38, of Minden.
While speaking with McDonald, officers reported detecting the odor of alcoholic beverages and observing glassy eyes, leading to suspicion of impairment. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted, during which officers noted indicators of impairment on both the walk-and-turn and one-leg stand tests.
During the investigation, a witness told officers that after McDonald allegedly ran a red light and struck the second vehicle, he exited his vehicle carrying a duffle bag and ran behind an abandoned building before returning to the scene.
Officers searched the area and located a pistol in a wooded area nearby. According to the report, McDonald admitted to throwing the firearm into the woods because he is a convicted felon.
McDonald was taken into custody and transported to the Minden Police Department, where he provided a breath sample on an Intoxilyzer 9000, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.019%.
McDonald was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of justice, and being a fugitive from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
