Emily Martin, granddaughter of Patsy McKenzie and niece of Kenny and Melanie Coile of Springhill, signed a Letter of Intent on National Signing Day to play soccer at The University of Texas in Austin. Emily verbally committed to the Longhorns her sophomore year in 2014, and she officially signed on Feb. 3. Emily is one of seven high school seniors to sign a Letter of Intent with the Longhorns who were ranked as having the 15th best recruiting class in the nation and the #1 class in the Big Twelve Conference.
Emily plays club soccer for Heat FC 98 in the Elite Clubs National League, which consists of 75 of the most accomplished women’s soccer clubs in the United States. As a player, Emily is a four star recruit per Topdrawersoccer, the top rating agency for women’s soccer. She is nationally ranked in the 2016 IMG Academy Top 150 soccer players in the country and ranked the 30th best defender in the nation. She is also regionally ranked as the 5th overall player in the Rocky Mountain/Southwest Region. Since 2014, she has participated in the ECNL Player Development Program to train for a potential opportunity with the United States Women’s National Team.
Emily is also a student at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. She will be a co-valedictorian of the Class of 2016, and she has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. She is the daughter of Ned and Amanda Martin of Las Vegas.
