Spring is here and it’s time to garden.
Owners of four gardens will showcase their green thumbs at Minden’s Trails & Trellises on May 14. The garden tour is presented by the Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners’ Garden Tour & Plant Sale.
Charles and Lyn Stubbs, 107 Carey Lane. Hidden from the road by a thick wooded area, it features formal planting areas and foxtail ferns, holly trees, gerbera daisies and monkey grass around the house.
Wayne Perryman and his wife Master Gardener Brenda Perryman, 112 Beck Curve Road. The home is shaded by oak and pecan trees and a special cottage garden. It’s filled with yard art, such a life-sized pot lady and old trikes and bikes found with the sedum. Plants include clematis, mock orange, white dianthus, pearl bush and hydrangeas.
Master Gardeners Steve and Betty Fowler, 406 Woodhaven Drive. Here you’ll see 200 azaleas and 50 camellias, a koi pond, pink naked ladies, hostas Chinese ground orchids, a Chestnut rose and heirloom plantings.
The Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardener Teaching Garden at the Webster Parish Extension Office, 1202 Homer Road. A vendors and plant sale will be held on the office grounds. A highlight: the butterfly garden, which features many native butterfly and moth species’ host plants, such as purple coneflower and bee balm. There is a fountain garden bed, moisture-loving plants and flowers such as native Louisiana iris, azaleas, flame grass.
Benches built by Master Gardener Reggie Paige will be arranged under a shady tree for seating during the outdoor horticultural classes, demonstrations, and to encourage visitors to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
