Melvin Emerson McGee (1934-2024) Retired Colonel Melvin Emerson McGee of the United States Army was called home on August 7, 2024. Melvin was born on the first of March 1934 in Minden (Red Hill), Louisiana to the late Almer and Agnes McGee. Melvin was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He worked for 30 years with the federal government while continuing to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. Melvin was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and numerous community organizations which included serving as President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) – Harford County Maryland Chapter, and membership in the Vest Ten Association, Toastmasters, and the Prince William, VA Association of Realtors. Melvin was preceded in by his parents Almer and Agnes Moody McGee; siblings: Willie, Almer Jr., Rogers, and Emmer. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Bettie; Children: Jerome, John, Veronica and Terrance also known as Tony; Daughter in-law Stacey; Brothers: David, John; Sisters: Sessa B, Lucie, and Mary Francis. 14 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, alumni and friends. Online condolences may be shared at www.mountcastle.net
