Meriwether Wealth & Planning announces scholarship opportunity for local graduating seniors

by Amber McDown

Meriwether Wealth & Planning recently announced the creation of two scholarships for eligible high school seniors. Tracy L. Campbell, Meriwether partner and financial advisor, expressed the company’s pride in contributing to local communities. “Meriwether is proud to give back to our local communities,” said Campbell. “Today, we take it one step further and introduce the Meriwether Scholarship.”

The Meriwether Scholarship aims to benefit graduating high school seniors in the region, offering two $1,000 scholarships. Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors from public or private high schools in the parishes of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Red River, Union, or Webster. To be considered, students must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university during the fall of 2024, with a minimum ACT composite score of 20 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Immediate family members of Meriwether Wealth & Planning employees are ineligible to apply.

Interested applicants must complete and sign the scholarship application, along with submitting required documentation, including an official high school transcript, ACT/SAT transcript, teacher’s letter of reference, civic or business leader professional letter of reference, acceptance letter from an accredited college, and a brief essay outlining goals in college and beyond, emphasizing leadership in both career and community.

Applications will be judged based on academic achievement, involvement in curricular and extracurricular activities, personal goals, recommendation letters, and personal essays. The company encourages proper grammar usage, spelling, and neat handwriting. All completed applications must be either mailed to Meriwether Wealth & Planning, Attention: Scholarship Selection Committee, 1000 Broadway St., Minden, LA 71055, or dropped off at their Minden location by 5 PM on Friday, March 28, 2024. Applications received after this deadline will not be eligible. The announcement of winners is expected in April.

Once scholarship recipients are chosen, funds will be awarded upon receipt of documentation showing college tuition/fees are due. Meriwether Wealth & Planning will send a check directly to the college or university. Meriwether Wealth & Planning has allocated over $150,000 in sponsorships and donations to schools and non-profit organizations over the past three years. They are proud to take this additional step by introducing the Meriwether Scholarship.
