The Minden Lady Tiders put together one of their most complete games of the year Monday at the Palace by routing the Captain Shreve Lady Gators, 66-46.
“I thought tonight was our best performance as a whole,” Lady Tider head coach Jacob Brown said. “The defensive end is where we really made it happen. We used our defense to create good offense and get a lot of high percentage shots. I thought we were solid on the glass and did a good job of knocking down free throws.”
Minden and Captain Shreve dueled to a 11-11 tie in the first quarter, as both teams struggled to gain an advantage.
In the second quarter, the Lady Tiders picked it up, particularly on defense, to jump out to a 29-17 lead at the half.
“I thought we really took control of the game in the second quarter,” Brown said. “We did a good job of getting out in transition and scoring off turnovers and I liked how good we were on the glass in limiting them to one shot. We finished with 19 steals tonight. We also had 15 assists. That’s a sign of an unselfish team.”
Minden outscored Captain Shreve 18-11 in the third quarter and 19-18 in the fourth to finish off a convincing victory.
Sha’Terra Batton led the Lady Tiders with 23 points. Tiaga Pugh worked hard in the paint on her way to 13 points and 8 rebounds and Marlena Hill finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lady Tiders will be back in action at home against Haynesville, Wednesday Dec. 17, at 8:50 p.m. in the 24th annual Minden Holiday Classic.
