The Greater Minden Chamber sees results in weight loss challenge
Citizens of the Minden community participated in an eight-week weight loss challenge which started on May 28.
This challenge was to help the people who signed up do their best and achieve their health goals. Cordarius Wayne, Certified Athletic Trainer, and Dustin Divelbiss, Manager and Trainer at All Hours Fitness hosted the award ceremony for the Lighten Up Weight Loss Challenge.
The challenge offered a hefty incentive, a $1000 cash prize for first place, as well as $500 for second place and $250 for third.
The challenge was put together by the Greater Minden Chamber, along with the support of their partners Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, All Hours Fitness of Minden, and Gibsland Bank & Trust.
When asked what the ideal outcome of this challenge was, Stephanie Barnette, President/CEO of the Greater Minden Chamber said, “To get the community healthy. When you have a healthy community, everyone wins. That was our goal, try to get people to have fun and enjoy a friendly competition to better their health.”
The initial weigh-in started on May 28 and the final weigh-in took place Monday, July 29 at All Hours Fitness. Rather than a flat amount of weight loss, the winners of the contest were determined by their percentage of weight loss.
The winners of the challenge are Brawley Andrews in third place, losing 9.4%, Joel Gray in second place, losing 11.3%, and Karen Hamilton in 1st place, losing 12.4%.
“We appreciate everyone who participated in this challenge, and congratulations to our winners,” Barnette said.
