Marquis D. Daniels, 24, of the 300 block of Beardsley Avenue, was arrested Sunday, Aug. 16 and charged with home invasion.
Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper says his officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Gum Street in reference to a disturbance.
“Officer First Class Kenneth James arrived on the scene and made contact with the female victim,” he said. “She stated around 7:30 that morning she was asleep in her bed at her home, and she was awakened by Mr. Daniels hitting her in the head with a beer can.”
According to the police report, the victim told officers the two fought all throughout the house, and she tried to defend herself.
“She grabbed a paper towel holder and hit Mr. Daniels in the head,” he said. “She stated during the altercation Mr. Daniels busted her lip and nose and also kicked out her bedroom window.”
By the time James arrived, Daniels was already gone, Cropper said. At that time, James told her she needed to come to the police department and file a report. James left the scene, and later that morning, around 10 a.m., he was dispatched back to the same residence.
“Upon his arrival, the female victim approached him and stated that Mr. Daniels just left in a black SUV,” Cropper said. “He contacted Officer Russell Engi, gave a description of the vehicle and Ofc. Engi made a traffic stop on the vehicle.”
According to the report, officers noted injuries to Daniels’ head. He was placed under arrest and taken to Minden Medical Center for treatment.
During questioning, Daniels admitted that he did not have permission to enter the home, Cropper said. Daniels told officers he’d been at the residence to drop his daughter off, reports say. He told officers he went inside the residence and that’s when the altercation occurred.
Lt. Seth Young assisted with the case.
Daniels was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
