Minden man arrested on warrants and drug charges

by Minden Press-Herald

On March 17, Sergeant Tewell responded to a call regarding a wanted individual at the intersection of Walter Lyons and Camp Street. Upon arrival, Sgt. Tewell identified the subject as Maurico Murphy, 34, wanted on six outstanding warrants through the Minden Police Department.

After confirming Murphy’s identity, Sgt. Tewell placed him under arrest, reading him his Miranda Rights and securing him in the patrol unit. While collecting Murphy’s belongings, Sgt. Tewell noticed a purple bag near Murphy’s bicycle. Inside the bag, he discovered a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine.

Despite Sgt. Tewell not revealing the contents of the bag to Murphy, the suspect denied ownership of the glass pipe. Further search of Murphy’s possessions revealed a plastic cigarette package containing a white substance suspected to be methamphetamine. A field test confirmed the substance’s identity.

Murphy was transported to the Minden Police Department and booked on possession of a schedule II substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the outstanding warrants which included two counts of entry or remaining after forbidden, theft, speeding, no drivers license, and no insurance.
