Minden man dies after being run over

by Minden Press-Herald

A man that was run over by a trailer full of scrap metal has died.

Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton calls the incident a freak accident and says Leroy Shine, 67, of Minden, passed away from his injuries Sunday. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11, on private property on Shine Road, just north of Minden, he said.
“Leroy Shine and another man had a load of scrap iron, and they got stuck in the yard,” he said.

After they got stuck, Sexton says they called someone to come pull them out. Help arrived and hooked to their vehicle.

“For some reason, Leroy got between the truck hooked to the trailer and nobody saw him.” he said. “When they started pulling the vehicle out, they had no idea he was in between it.”
The vehicle was pulled out, but the trailer rolled over Shine, the sheriff said.

“When they got the truck out, they went back and saw him lying on the ground and attempted to help him get up, thinking he’d fallen down,” Sexton said. “When they realized what happened, they called the sheriff’s office and called for an ambulance.”

Shine was airlifted to University Health in Shreveport. Sexton says he passed away just after lunch Sunday.
