Minden Police Department hosts fundraiser to support Special Response Team

by Amber McDown

In an effort to bolster the capabilities and safety of their Special Response Team (SRT), the Minden Police Department is organizing a fundraiser scheduled for Friday, August 25. The event will take place at Miller Quarters on Gleason Street, with meal pick-ups available between 11 AM and 1 PM.

The fundraiser offers two delectable options: burger plates priced at $13 and pulled pork plates at $15. The gracious support of Alicia and Thomas Adams as ticket sponsors underscores the community’s commitment to law enforcement.

Headed by Lt. Cheatham and Lt. Curry, the Special Response Team plays a pivotal role in handling some of the most perilous tasks faced by police officers. With a role analogous to a SWAT team, this unit executes high-risk search and narcotics warrants, as well as responding to major crimes. Sgt. Shane Griffith emphasized the imperative of ensuring the team’s safety and efficiency: “We want our guys to be safe. They run all the high-risk search warrants and narcotics warrants. If we have a major crime, they’ll run all of that. We’re trying to get our guys outfitted with up-to-date equipment.”

For those interested in supporting this critical cause, tickets can be purchased in advance at the Minden Police Department or from Keith Jellum at 318-584-3853 and JD Cottle at 318-286-0477. It is advised to secure tickets ahead of time as they are being pre-sold to facilitate accurate meal planning. The Minden Police Department underscores the importance of planning ahead, encouraging the community to secure tickets in advance rather than relying on walk-up orders.

This fundraising initiative not only fosters community engagement but also contributes directly to the safety and operational effectiveness of the Special Response Team. As Minden residents come together to support their local police force, the event serves as a testament to the community’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
