Minden Police to host domestic violence awareness event Oct

by Amber McDown

The Minden Police Department will host a proclamation signing and community forum Thursday, October 8, in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, bringing together local organizations and residents to raise awareness and support those affected by abuse.

The event, themed “It’s Not OK,” will begin at 11:30 AM in the Minden Police Department parking lot, 520 Broadway St. It is co-hosted by the Minden Police Association.

October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, an opportunity to bring attention to domestic abuse, encourage prevention, and connect victims and survivors with available resources.

Detective Heather Boucher, who joined the Minden Police Department in June, has made domestic violence and sexual assault investigations a primary focus of her law enforcement career. In addition to investigating these crimes, Boucher has expressed a commitment to educating the public about warning signs, prevention, and resources available to victims.

The department has also been working to provide necessities and comfort items to individuals and families escaping abusive situations, recognizing that victims sometimes must leave their homes quickly with little more than the clothing they are wearing.

The event is supported by numerous local businesses, health care providers, and community organizations, including Minden Medical Center, Project Celebration Inc., Gingerbread House Children’s Advocacy Center, and others.

Commemorative “It’s Not OK” T-shirts are also available for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting local Minden St. Jude fundraising efforts.

Those wishing to purchase a shirt should email Boucher at [email protected] and include their name, shirt size, and phone number or use the QR code.

For additional information about the event, contact the Minden Police Department at 318-371-4226 or email Boucher.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation surrounding domestic violence awareness and prevention.
