by Amber McDown

Minden will welcome more than 30 youth softball teams and their families next weekend as the city hosts the Diamond Youth Softball Louisiana State Tournament, set for July 3–6 at the Minden Recreation Center.

Teams in the 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U age divisions will compete for state titles, with a chance to advance to the DYS World Series. The event is expected to bring a large influx of visitors during the holiday weekend.

“This is more than just a tournament — it’s an opportunity to showcase our small-town charm, southern hospitality, and community pride,” the Greater Minden Chamber stated.

The tournament is part of a full slate of activities planned in Minden over the Fourth of July weekend. On Thursday, July 3, the 7th Annual Duck Derby Extravaganza will take place in downtown Minden beginning at 5 PM. The event will feature a children’s parade, food vendors, live music, contests, fireworks, and the signature duck race with cash prizes.

On Friday, July 4, the American Legion will hold its annual flag changing ceremony at 9 AM at Eagle Park on Turner’s Pond.

With softball, community events, and patriotic traditions on the schedule, Minden is preparing for a weekend of all-American family fun.
