New mural installed for Miller Quarters Park

by Amber McDown

A vibrant mural now adorns a wall on Lee Street between Sheppard Street and Broadway, adjacent to Miller Quarters Park, as part of a collaborative project between the Webster Parish Convention and Visitors Commission (CVC) and Louisiana Tech University’s School of Design.

The mural, completed last weekend, was designed by Louisiana Tech seniors Ellie Puljak and Paige Thomas. Both students were enrolled in the university’s Fall 2024 Identity Systems Design class, which offered them the opportunity to create a visual identity for Miller Quarters Park. Their branding concepts were selected for implementation by the CVC.

The mural serves as a key component of the park’s branding, fulfilling a request from local tourism officials. Puljak and Thomas developed the mural design based on the branding they originally created for the park.

Students from Louisiana Tech’s School of Design previously played a role in the park’s development, creating preliminary plans that professional architects later adapted. The finalized plans were shared with the public during the summer of 2023.

The mural’s installation was a team effort, involving Puljak, Thomas, and several contributors, including Jennifer Heard, Kayla Martin, Rachel Miller, Patrick Miller, Lela Margaret Miller, and Treat Miller.

The addition of the mural reflects ongoing efforts to enhance the visual appeal of Miller Quarters Park and its surrounding area, further solidifying the park as a community focal point.
