NLTCC barber styling student earns nationally recognized Joe Francis Scholarship

Minden, LA – Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College barber styling student Jeremy McKeever was recognized Monday as one of 25 students nationwide to receive a $1,500 scholarships from the Joe Francis Haircare Scholarship Foundation.

The scholarships are awarded directly toward tuition costs for cosmetology and barber education. Over the past 22 years the Foundation has awarded 410 scholarships totaling $410,000 given to students of cosmetology and barber programs.

Each scholarship recipient demonstrated a strong commitment to complete his or her barber/cosmetology education as well as financial need.

“We could not be more proud of Jeremy for this accomplishment,” said Lawrence Richardson, barber styling instructor at NLTCC. “Our program is designed to prepare students to work efficiently by providing hands-on experience with instructor supervision.”

Practical skills are developed through experience in a school-based, on-site shop which is equipped and managed according to industry standards by the students with instructor supervision. Upon completion, students are eligible to take the LA State Board of Barber Examiners licensure examination.

“Jeremy’s drive and passion for his craft has set a great example for anyone looking to pursue a career in barber styling or any skilled craft,” said NLTCC Chancellor Earl Meador.
