Old Arcadia Rd. crash ends with DWI arrest

by Minden Press-Herald

A one-vehicle crash led to the arrest of a man on DWI charges when Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies suspected alcohol to be involved.

The sheriff’s office arrested Larry Douglas Rankins, 28, aka “Lawrence,” of the 100 block of Amy Lane, around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the charge of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and improper lane usage.

According to reports, Dep. John Lewis Jr. was dispatched to Old Arcadia Road in reference to the crash and came in contact with the driver, identified as Rankins. He reportedly admitted that he was the driver, and while talking to him, Lewis reported a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and slurred speech.

Rankins allegedly admitted that he’d had three shots of vodka mixed with sweet tea.

Lewis also noted skid marks on the road and the two tires on the driver’s side were blown out, according to reports.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Webster Parish Courthouse where a field sobriety test was administered. He reportedly performed poorly on all portions of the test. He then submitted a breath sample on the Intoxilyzer 5000, and according to the report, his blood alcohol content results were .122 percent.

Rankins was then transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
