Pack the Bus collects supplies for area children

by Minden Press-Herald

A large school bus parked on the sidewalk in front of Walmart was ready and waiting to be loaded with school supplies Friday and Saturday.

Volunteers collected colorful boxes of crayons, packages of lined paper, piles of pencils, stacks of kindergarten mats to help area kids get back to school.

Ursula Hullaby, Back to School Bash committee member says this year’s donations topped the previous and is a reflection of the community.

“The community really opened their hearts and shared their finances and donated so graciously to our students. Everything is costly now and for our community to have given so unselfishly, just shows what kind of community we live in… an awesome one,” Hullaby said.

The supply drive would not have been as successful without the help of Walmart, Hullaby said.

“I would like to give a big thank you to the sponsors, especially Walmart as a premiere sponsor. Mark Hankins, Walmart manager, and his staff went above and beyond to make sure our students’ needs are met this year,” she said.

The school supplies will be distributed to area students at the annual Back to School Bash August 3 at the Minden Civic Center.

Any company that wishes to become a sponsor can call Hullaby at 377-7052 or Glenda Allums with ConocoPhillips at 382-4500.
